INSTRUCTIONS FOR RUNNING DISK DEFRAGMENTER MANUALLY

Steps to Run Disk Defragmenter Manually in Windows XP

1) Log in as Administrator

Restart computer and log in as "Admin" with password "f2143m"
Double click on the "Disk Defragmenter" icon.
The "Disk Defragmenter" window will appear on the screen.

2) Click on the "Defragment" button

Make sure that the WinXP (C:) volume (the first volume in the list) is selected and highlighted in blue. (See the screenshot below).

Note: if the (C:) volume is NOT selected, then left-click on it so that it becomes highlighted in blue. Then click on the "Defragment" button.

The defrag process may take several minutes. The screenshot below shows the green progress bar, which is what you will see during the defragmenting process. The green progress bar and percentage indicates roughly how much time remains.

3) Closing Disk Defragmenter

When the defragmenting process is finished, a message box will appear on the screen. See the screenshot below.

Click on the"Close" button.
Finally, click on the red "X" at the top right of the "Disk Defragmenter" window.
